Management of Accidental Ingestions of Caustic Products in Emergency Departments in Dakar : About 31 Cases

Background: Caustics are corrosive substances whose ingestion causes tissue damage that can range from mucosal irritation to total necrosis or even perforation of the affected digestive bronchial segment. Ingestion is often accidental in children and a real public health problem low middle income countries, particularly Africa.
 Aims: The main objective this study was describe epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic scalable aspects ingestions caustics medical emergency department National Children's Hospital Center Albert Royer (NCHCAR) Dakar.
 Methods: This descriptive analytical over 12-month period, March 2020 February 2021. population aged 0 15 years who were seen consultation hospitalized following caustic product ingestion.
 Results: During we included 31 for out 900 children, i.e., hospital frequency 3.44% (31/900). mean age 21.29±13.10 months extremes 8 60 months. group [12-18 months] most represented (25.81%). Boys predominant (51.61%) with sex ratio 1.07. Sodium hypochlorite (bleaching water) ingested (64.52%); soda concerned 22.58% children. More than half (77.45%) symptomatic mainly signs including oral ulcerations (41.93%) vomiting (38.71%). oesogastroduodenal fibroscopy performed 19 (61.29%) normal 14 (73.68%). Five had endoscopic lesions which 2 cases stage I 3 IIa Zargar classification. Initial management exclusively antisecretory drugs (70.97%), analgesics (38.71%) corticosteroids (35.48%). evolution favorable majority patients. One child presented dysphagia solids after 4 weeks treated by dilatation. 
 Conclusion: Accidental frequent departments. They generally affect under 24 age. uncomplicated forms more predominant. Prevention based on education awareness dangers products.
